GESAMP International Workshop Metals in the Aquatic Environment

GESAMP WG 37 Metals supported by UNEP, IAEA and SIDA will meet for a 3rd session at the UNEP Chemicals Branch, DTIE, Geneva. The group has a revised TOR from UNEP which will be the main focus of discussion. Under the TOR consistent with UNEP Governing Council priorities as identified in Decision 24/3 and 25/3, the study is a response to the following requests of the Governing Council to:
address the data and information gaps identified in the UNEP reviews of the scientific information on cadmium and lead (paragraph 16 of decision 25/5 II);
  • inform the work of the intergovernmental negotiating committee on mercury (paragraph 29 of decision 25/5 III) and;
  • update the 2008 report entitled “Global Atmospheric Mercury
  • Assessment: Sources, Emissions and Transport” (paragraph 36 of decision 25/5 III).
The objective of the workshop is to assess progress made by the members of WG 37 in the inter sessional period and prepare inputs for the final reports.
