GESAMP was present at the second meeting of the UNGA Ad Hoc Working Group of the Whole which was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, and hosted by DOALOS, from 30 August to 3 September 2010 to recommend on the modalities for the implementation of the ‘Regular Process for global reporting and assessment of the state of the marine environment, including socio-economic aspects’ (in short, the UNRP), including the key features, the institutional arrangements and financing and to specify the objective and scope of its first assessment cycle (2010 – 2014) approved under Resolution A/64/71 in 2009. At the meeting GESAMP once again offered to contribute to the UNRP, in particular by conducting thematic assessments, by having formal linkages with the UNRP Panel of Experts to foster cooperation and coordination, by providing GESAMP’s Pool of Experts and by participating in peer reviews.
