Terms of Reference for the atmospheric transport of microplastics

  • Identification of our current understanding and quantitative estimation of the major sources and types of atmospheric microplastics, their atmospheric transport paths, and their inputs to and emissions from the global ocean.
  • Development of guidelines on appropriate future atmospheric and marine sampling and measurement methods and strategies, to enable more accurate estimations of the above to be made.

WG 38: Atmospheric inputs to the ocean

  • Work on the impacts of atmospheric nitrogen deposition on the oceans 2013-2017
  • Work on the impacts of Ocean Acidification on atmospheric chemistry and atmospheric nutrient solubility 2017-2019
  • Work on the Transport of Microplastics in the Atmosphere 2020-2022
  • Terms of Reference for the atmospheric transport of microplastics
  • Work on the role of atmospheric deposition in large-scale algal growth in the Madagascar Channel and the Southwest Indian Ocean 2019-current
  • Terms of Reference for large-scale algal growth workshop
