This report responds to requests from the sponsoring agencies of GESAMP for an analysis of control strategies that deal with the assessment and management of waste disposal in the marine environment. The current heightened awareness of the oceans as a communal resource and as a vital link in the global energy cycle has increased international commitment towards strengthening and extending the protection afforded by international agreements.
