The GESAMP Chair and members of the GESAMP Working Group 40 on plastics and microplastics represented GESAMP at the 6th International Marine Debris Conference (6IMDC) in San Diego, California.
The group presented its work on 'assessment and monitoring of plastics and microplastics in the ocean: supporting an harmonized approach'. Mr. Francois Galgani, member of the group and of the French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea (IFREMER), chaired a session 'towards a global monitoring plan for the world oceans' which aimed at proposing solutions for a simple and efficient monitoring of marine litter in the world oceans.
